C2E2 Swag! a.k.a. How to get your life signed by Geoff Johns

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

I promised in my C2E2 Cosplayers Photos post that I’d post more on C2E2. Well I’m finally getting around to doing so. This post is a little showcase for some of the swag I toted back from the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo.

This was the first con where I really made an attempt to get some signatures from writers and artists that I really like. I was very lucky to get Geoff Johns and Alex Ross to sign several of my things. I tried more than once to meet up with Jim Lee but has bad timing for his scheduled times and was unable to find him elsewhere. I did manage a few other signed items by other people too, but I’ll get into more detail on that and the items when I show them below.

Pete’s Wednesday Comics Picks – 4/28/10 – The Brightest Day

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

The Blackest Night is over and the Brightest Day is just beginning. AND! It’s Wednesday! Time for new comics picks.

When I was at C2E2 I attended several DC Universe panels with the amazing staff of DC. A lot of focus was put on the new direction of the DCU into the “Brightest Day”. For a lot of my favorite characters, this is spelling out big things. Amongst the many things talked about, the New Guardians are here to stay (at least for now), and there will be a whole new Green Lantern series, Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors.

Pete’s Wednesday Comics Picks – 4/7/10 – A day late and a comic short

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Hello all, its Thursday again! Wait, what? Oh yea. Wednesday was yesterday. Ugh.

I must apologize for my lack of a post yesterday. Not to mention the missing Friday Weight loss results and March Wrap up. They are all coming soon, I promise. It’s just been an interesting two weeks for me that has not left enough time for the PeteCast blog. Anyway, on with the comics.

As I said in the title, I’m a day late and a comic short. That’s because I not only am posting today instead of yesterday, but because I did not make my Midtown Comics trip. So today I’m going to talk about someone who is never late for anything, because he’s the fastest man alive; the Flash. And in particular, since there are more than several Flashes these days, Barry Allen.

Pete’s Wednesday Comics Picks – 3/31/10 – Blackest Night Edition

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Wednesday rolls around again, and this time it brings with it the finale of the Blackest Night saga. I thought at first about recapping the BN saga to date, but I think my time and yours would be better spent on just mentioning how great I thought it was and why.

It’s been a very interesting plot to say the least, filled with many twists and turns. No one can say that Geoff Johns isn’t truly a master of his art. What makes Blackest Night such a great series is the many different mysteries that it offers up while also forcing our favorite heroes to come face to face with those they have lost. It’s full of raw emotion which while in most stories like this is something of an undertone, here it is the main focus. The Black Lantern’s feed on the emotions of the living and in turn the living need to try and deal with those same emotions to come to terms with life and death. All the while, death is staring them literally in the face.

Pete’s Wednesday Comics Picks – 3/24/10

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

What day is it today? Wednesday you say? That can only mean one thing… NEW COMICS! New “comic” singular is more like it for me this week, but what a doozy! Yes, the penultimate issue of Green Lantern’s run with the Blackest Night series is here and I have hit a crossroads. Let me explain.

Blackest Night and Green Lantern got me back into collecting comics. As the series is quickly winding down now, it sort of feels like the end of an era. All those tie-ins that have made my Wednesday Comics picks weightier are now all but done, leaving me with weeks like this with only 1 pick or *gasp* none at all! Of course, after Blackest Night, comes Brightest Day. But I’m not entirely sold on it yet, so I’ll have to see which direction it takes.

I also had a lot of expectations of what would happen during and by the end of BN. Surprisingly enough I was right on almost all counts. Almost. Lets start at the beginning…
