2010 Challenge Update – February 23, 2010 – 200, no more.

A quick post for a big milestone reached today!

Challenge #2: Lose weight on the South Beach Diet.
Current weight: 199.3
Current BMI: 27.90
Weight loss from start: -34.4 lbs.
Progress: I wanted to make note that today, for the first time since 2006, I have finally made it back under 200lbs. At a current weight of 199.3 I am ecstatic about my progress and looking forward not only to completing my goal, but also to never breaching 200 again. I write that on a wary tone, because so many times in my life I have gone back up to weights I hoped not to reach again. But with the plan I am on now, I think I should be able to really stick to it.

My initial goal is now just 9.3 lbs away. I have mentioned multiple times my first goal is 190. It seems so reachable now and in such short order, that I am looking to finally announce officially my next goal. I had wanted to reach my 190 goal first, but breaking the 200 barrier has really given me a great sense of accomplishment. With that said, I am making my second goal 180 lbs.

Ideally I would like to reach even lower numbers, but I want to make my goals reachable for the immediate future. I am venturing into unexplored territory for myself at this point. I haven’t been lower than even 195 in so long that I can’t even remotely guess when it was. Maybe at some point in high school, but I honestly don’t know. It makes it impossible to guess if the rate at which I’ve been losing weight will remain the same or really start to plateau out.

To reach 180 would be something I could not have imagined previous to my diet’s start. Breaching 180 would put me into the “normal” zone of weight for my height. If I can reach my second goal, who knows, maybe I can even reach a third or fourth. The diet has gotten easier over time, but the results have had hiccups occasionally. It would make sense for more of that to continue, maybe even worsen. But for now, my first and second goals seem reachable and that’s what I am going to focus my energies on.
