Pete’s Wednesday Comics Picks – 2/3/10

February 3rd, 2010 by Pete Labrozzi

Its Wednesday again, which means its time for the second edition of “Pete’s Wednesday Comics Picks”.

I am unfortunately running fairly far behind in my comics. As you may have read in previous posts, I was trying all of January to re-watch LOST seasons 1 through 5 before the premiere episode last night. This took up a huge chunk of time and has forced me to be quite backlogged in the comics world. In fact I still haven’t gotten around to reading the books I picked up last week. Rest assured, this is all something I am seeking to remedy as soon as possible.

Another holdup that actually ties in to one of today’s titles is the recent release of the video game, Mass Effect 2. I won’t go into length about it here, but I never completely finished off Mass Effect 1, so I have also been putting some time into trying to wrap that up before starting the new one.

While two of the three titles I’m picking up today are directly a part of the Blackest Night story line, the third, Mass Effect Redemption, follows the story of one of the characters from the first game. This makes the second series I am trying to read through that is part of the extra tie-in material to a game. (The first is the ongoing, Modern Warfare 2: Ghost series). I really think its a cool way to market the games and expand their story’s universes in the comic medium.

A lot of games these days have tie-in novels and sometimes even TV shows or movies. The comic medium I think is among the best though, as they offer short but sweet insights into the characters or worlds of the games. Some games like Batman: Arkham Asylum have even actually come packaged with mini-comics, which is great and ties the two mediums together perfectly.

Anyway, thats all for today. Happy reading!
