Queue it up – Up in the Air

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Hello all, and welcome to the first blog version of Queue it up. Today’s movie is 2009′s Up in the Air starring George Clooney.

I have to admit, I was for a long while after hearing about this movie, not at all interested. The prospect of a movie about a guy flying around the country firing people for a living  just seemed like something I could skip. Especially given the still shaky but slowly recovering job atmosphere we are all living in, I was immediately filled with nothing but disinterest. Clearly I skipped it in the theater, but like most new releases, I tacked it onto my saved list for Netflix.

Movie Review: Alice in Wonderland The Matrix Underland

Monday, March 15th, 2010

Alice, Alice, Alice… How far down the rabbit hole you have fallen this time. ::sigh::

This past weekend I saw Alice in Wonderland in IMAX 3D. Most of my region was experiencing a nor’easter or some similar type of storm. I was supposed to originally help out with an MS Society charity event helping children of parents with MS to go ice skating. I was also supposed to go to my nephew’s birthday party which coincidentally was also to be an ice skating party. Long story, but I ended up not being able to do the first because of the second, and not being able to do the second because of the weather. So Alice it was.

I guess I should start by saying this is probably going to focus on my problems with the movie a lot more than what I liked about it. I rated this movie as a 3.5 stars out of 5. I’m still a little undecided to be honest. Sometimes I feel like being generous and giving it a 4, sometimes a 3. But I think it’ll have to stay in the middle.

Final Fantasy XIII – Initial Impressions

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of my “Initial Impressions” gaming posts. I think my last was way back when Fallout 3 came out. I thought that the newest entry into the Final Fantasy series deserved post however, so here it is…

Way back in the year 1997, a game was released for the Sony Playstation called: Final Fantasy VII. It was my first real foray into the RPG (Role-playing game) genre. I absolutely loved it. I’m sure I had seen or dabbled in other RPG’s before (probably Secret of Mana or something similar at friend’s houses), but this is my first real sturdy memory of playing all the way through an RPG that I myself owned.

Pete’s Wednesday Comics Picks – 3/3/10

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Wednesday rolls around again, and despite the weather being fairly crummy, I have a mission! Why? because it’s new comics Wednesday!

This week I am heading over to good old Midtown Comics to pick up this weeks pull list, as well as last weeks. I couldn’t be more excited to finally get my grubby mitts on Blackest Night number 7! And speaking of the number seven, this week’s picks also features another “7th” issue; Justice League – Cry for Justice #7.

Cry for Justice (CfJ) has been an interesting series from the start. I picked up the first one because my man, Hal Jordan the Green Lantern, was leading the charge. CfJ explores several heroes coming together and demanding justice. The idea is that most heroes sit around and wait for something bad to happen, then proceed to stop the bad guys. However, a few select heroes are tired of this approach to fighting crime, and want to take the war to their enemy’s front doors instead.
