Pete’s Wednesday Comics Picks – 4/21/10 – C2E2 Cosplayers Edition!

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

Last Wednesday I was unable to post a Pete’s Wednesday Comics Picks because I was flying to Chicago to attend the first ever Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo (C2E2). But now I’m back and I come bearing photos!

The show was a lot of fun and there were a whole lot of very talented people who created and wore some of the best cosplay outfits I’ve seen in a while. I plan on posting more information all throughout the week but my first post is dedicated to those folks who stopped and let me take their picture. So as a special edition of Pete’s Wednesday Comics Picks, I am picking out some of my top favorite cosplayers of C2E2.

I will also link to all the photos below at the end of the post. If you find yourself or a friend in one of the photos, please comment and let me know what you think! If you find any where I didn’t know the character as well, please let me know who they are.

C2E2 Photos Information

Monday, April 19th, 2010

This is a quick post for all you awesome people I met and photographed at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo this past weekend. You’ll remember me as the crazy guy with the photo umbrella strapped to my back.

I captured several hundred shots of people in amazing costumes, and images around the show floor. Well done to you all for those amazing outfits! I hope you enjoyed the con as much as I did.

I’m currently working very hard on sorting through and touching up everything. Please check back within the next few days and I’ll hopefully be able to get them ready and posted.

In the meantime, feel free to check out the rest of my blog. Of particular interest to most of you will be my Pete’s Wednesday Comics Picks posts.

Please also check back for more C2E2 posts throughout the week and maybe even a special podcast episode.

2010 Challenge Update – January Wrap-up

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

January 2010 has come to a close, so here is a recap of my 2010 challenges progress so far.

Challenge #1: Watch all of LOST seasons 1-5 before the final season premieres on February 2nd, 2010.
Progress: Complete!

As you might have seen in my last post, I finished this challenge right on time. Watching all of LOST again was an amazing experience. It was so great to catch all the little ins and outs the writers stuck in there from the beginning and see where it has all led up to. If you’d like to read more of my thoughts on lost, check out that post here, or click on the LOST category on the right side bar.

Introducing: Pete’s 2010 Challenges!

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

2010 is quickly approaching. Many people around the world are making new years resolutions. But resolutions fail. To make a “resolution” is to decide to do or not to do something. But there is no defined follow-through, no goals to reach. Decisions can be changed or lessened. There is no strength in the word, so people quickly forget and waver.

Now, a challenge on the other hand… A challenge is defined by a task which must be overcome through strength of will and determination. Now thats more like it. You can fail at a challenge, but at least you have a goal in mind.

With that said, 2010 is going to be a goal-ridden new year for me. I have started some, and others are laying in waiting. I have decided to track these goals and the progress being made in a series of blogs. In fact, I am challenging myself to do so. In this way I am answering to myself and the internet cloud. So without further adieu, here is the current list and progress on Pete’s 2010 Challenges. I will list each challenge, some information about it and current progress. In the future I will probably just be talking about progress and outlook…

Finally! Pete’s New York Comic Con 2009 Pics

Monday, March 30th, 2009

So I finally got around to uploading my photos from the New York Comic Con 2009 on Flickr. It’s taken so long because I couldn’t get a dedicated weekend to spend the time necessary to go through them all, but with this weekend’s stormy weather, up they went.

Anyway, you can see the entire set here:
http://tinyurl.com/nycc09

To give you an idea of the reason it took so long, for two straight days…
- I went through and converted all the pictures from RAW to JPG, adjusting the images as needed before converting
- Then I added my signature frame and copyright tag to all of them
- Then once that was completed I went through image by image and deleted any I didn’t like or that were too blurry or had other problems (down to 512 from a little over 600).
- Then I batch uploaded them to Flickr on private settings (only I can see them) which took two tries as the first batch had a problem and quit after 230 were uploaded. Total upload time was something like 15-20 hours (flickr uploadr is SLOW! but nessecary) as the batch was something like 2.9 gigs worth of photos.
- Once everything was all on Flickr I created a set for them and organized them in the set
- I then went through and added a first layer of tags that were universal to all the pictures (New York Comic Con 2009 etc)
- I then went through and did a second layer of tags for any pictures featuring Cosplayers and one for panels
- I then enetered a third layer going picture by picture, sometimes in small batches adding specific tags and descriptions for each photo’s contents (i.e. naming characters, panelists, people, places etc.)
- After all this was done, I removed the privacy option and added them to the global flickr area so anyone could view them
